Tribune-Star/Austen Leake Shutting down: Alorica has announced that it will close its Terre Haute location on Fort Harrison Road.

After more than 10 years in Terre Haute, Alorica is closing its inbound call center at 1800 Fort Harrison Road.

Erica McCarthy, a communications manager in the company’s Irvine, California, corporate headquarters, confirmed the closure Monday evening.

The company opened the center in Plaza North Shopping Center in June 2008 to provide services such as customer service and support, logistics and fulfillment for Fortune 500 companies. By the end of its first year of operations, 750 employees worked at the site at 1800 Fort Harrison Road.

However, the number of jobs had fluctuated in recent years and McCarthy said the facility currently employs about 300 people. It appears the closure will be completed by year’s end.

“It’s always a hard decision to say goodbye to some of our amazing team members who have worked with us over the years,” McCarthy said in an email.

“As we implement new initiatives to stay on top of market trends and evolve with our clients’ business needs, we sadly must make changes that sometimes impact our people,” she wrote.

“We thank each of our departing colleagues for their contributions and we are committed to treating them with respect, as we do all our employees, during this transition.”

No additional information was available from the company. Positions at the Terre Haute facility were still posted on some employment web sites Monday.
