BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Xerox Corporation is anticipating a mass layoff at its Baton Rouge location in a couple of months.

The company issued a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) on March 4.

In Xerox's letter to the Louisiana Workforce Commission, it stated that about 84 employees at the Xerox State & Local Solutions Inc. in Baton Rouge will be let go on May 6 because of "a change in business conditions."

Kevin Lightfoot, a Xerox representative, said that the company's customer care center operations for the Louisiana Department of Family and Child Services are being transferred to a new vendor.

"Xerox has supported the State's vulnerable for the past five years and unfortunately could not reach a mutually-agreeable contract with the State," Lightfoot said in a statement Wednesday. "Xerox's contracts with other State agencies are not affected by this transfer."

The transition is expected to be finished by May before phasing out the Baton Rouge facility, which is located at 7173 Florida Boulevard.
