Judge Brett Kavanaugh was interviewed by Paul Gigot as part of an American Enterprise Institute event on politics and the Supreme Court. Topics included the amount of time the Senate should take to consider judicial nominees; “originalism,” the belief that courts should interpret a constitution according to the intent of the drafters and ratifiers; and judicial interpretation of executive branch regulations. Regarding President Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to replace Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court, he said Judge Garland is supremely qualified to sit on the high court. Judges Kavanaugh and Garland serve together on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. close
